Just a Friday

I got up at 8 - it had been brightly light since 5:30 and I just couldn't go back to sleep anymore. So I sliced the strawberries, made the batter for crêpes, whipped the cream, sliced the cantaloupe and  prosciutto, set the table, read the NYTimes, did the crossword puzzle, did a few lines on the cross stitch, and at 10:30 said, OK, That's enough, time to get up!!!!!!!!!!!!  I live with sleepy heads!

They loved the breakfast.

Somehow, there were no pictures of spreading the Nutella on the crêpes, and Dylan going - twice - to wash hands during breakfast because the chocolate was all over the place!  But yummy would seem to cover the  response to the breakfast offering.  Not sure when that will happen again ... maybe Tuesday :-)

We got on the bikes to do an exploratory tour of our area.  Before, we'd just gone by bike to the market and such.

We biked along the river, checked out the whale jawbone sculpture, the stands they were setting up for the weekend fair.  And we stopped at one of the installations in the park to interest the kids - a stainless steel half-globe. The challenge is to get to the top - no so easy!  Dylan tried and tried and then finally let Werner help her reach the top.

A mystery attack of some itching thingy made us take the short route home where I washed Dylan's back and then everything was OK. Next time, I'll take some wipes with us...

And, too bad, the rain started again.  But we're prepared!!  We've started on the puzzle...frankly, a challenge.  If we don't have time to finish it, that will be OK because that will mean we've had more sunny days.
Since we can't do that for hours, Werner got some videos from the library, and Dylan thought Night at the Museum was a good choice. Good choice! It was fun and made us laugh a lot.
Oh, and don't forget the cake we made.  Measuring, mixing, and licking the spoon was fine. While we watched the movie, the cake was baking.
After dinner (leftover chicken, green beans, roasted potatoes) we went down to the fair.  Thank goodness, the weather had changed!!!  It's not warm, but it's not wet!
There are these little sorta pancakes from The Netherlands that looked interesting, so she ate some little pancakes with Nutella.

They tasted good.

There's Mexican too:  Quesadilla! Not trying that here.
Hey, I can throw a dart!! Can I?  OK, and not a bad shot.  She won a little stuffed dolphin and a bat a ball.  Maybe we can whack a ball or two on a picnic next week.

A couple more chapters and off to bed.  Me too.

  1. Just got a chance to look this over; it seems like a great--albeit rainy-- trip! I plan on sharing this with Avery tomorrow (she's sleeping now) because she keeps asking how Dylan is doing over there. She'll be excited to see pictures and hear stories! --Aunt Stephanie
