Of course we are in Bremen, but it's a long city, and the city center, where all the really old stuff is, is not here. It's there.
So, up r e a l l y early for us, breakfast at 9 and on the train about 10:00. Considering our out-of-bed times at noon on other days, that is early !!
At breakfast, we went over the story of the Bremen Town Musicians just for reference. That helped.
First stop, the place where you throw your money in the ground! That was an interesting idea, throwing your money in the ground. This is fun - you get to hear one of the Town Musicians making their particular "music" and the money supports children in our area.
So many obligatory photo ops. Here, at the Roland. I forget sometimes just how big he is!
Then, the photo with the statue of the Town Musicians,
It may look like it's warm, given what we are wearing, but you'd be wrong! We weren't freezing exactly, but frankly, more clothes would have been welcome.
We forgot the Spitting Stone!!! We'll have to do that later.....
Then we went into the chocolate shop but that was a bit of a bust since the shop was overwhelmed with aromas from the teas - and I mean overwhelmed! Dylan walked around with her pullover over her nose. I couldn't blame her. Out we went with no chocolate to the Cathedral.
We looked at a few exhibits honoring Martin Luther's 500th anniversary, eyed the church mouse, and then climbed the tower. 265 steps, more than enough for me and Werner! Dylan did just fine but then after we got down she said, My legs are shaking!!!
Along the River Weser, we found another "compass" but looked in vain for a Florida city...
And in the Schnoor, we loved the tiny little passages.
And the most fun of all - the magician!!! We've seen him off and on for at least 10 years, and he just keeps getting better. Dylan laughed and laughed! He's a good showman.
There were so many places to find souvenirs for Dylan, Hayden, and Avery. Still looking for something for Tate.
We had eaten "lunch" at McD's after our climb up the Cathedral tower, but Dylan was quite interested in the Pancake Ship offerings, so we checked it out. Well, I could eat maybe a Nutella pancake, maybe, she said....
While waiting for our order, I said, Hey, draw me a picture of the Bremen Town Musicians. This kid is clever by too much.....
And then the Pancake came. I have to say, it was as good as she anticipated, and she ate it all!!! which I had not anticipated.
On the way back to the train to home, a shot with the cathedral in the background...
It was a really good day. But that wasn't the end! I needed to meet with my Monday evening class this Monday evening and asked Dylan, Would you like to come? You can tell them a riddle. Well, OK, says she.
The class was a bit smaller than usual since folks were on holiday, but we had a great time. They asked her questions and she gave answers, but I had to keep telling her to s l o w down and speak carefully! My guys loved her visit, but she had to repeat herself a lot!! And she asked them riddles and what fun that was. They were so impressed and had fun trying to guess the answers.
Home again, meatballs and pasta for dinner, a movie (Nanny McPhee) and then several chapters of the book and now I am going to bed!!!!
It was a fun day. Tomorrow - the Hamburg Zoo.
